Karmalaya Foundation Nepal (KFN) was founded in 2011 by Bhagwan Karki and co-founder & mentor Tina Eckert. KFN is a non profit social organization initiating and supporting social projects to improve people's living standard. The diverse working area of the foundation is fundamentally targetted to rural Nepal.

Journalism graduate Bhagwan Karki began trekking and travelling to mountains of Nepal and reached virgin rural areas of Nepal. Throughout his travel, he enjoyed views and natural beauty but first hand experience into remote areas also gave the access to real picture of poverty, insufficiency and hardship. Such situation within a country was painful to experience and to forget which is the chief force that Mr Karki started helping needy people from his personal capacity.

Further, in 2011, the official establishment of Karmalaya Foundation Nepal happened when travel journalist Tina Eckert mentored and supported social, charitable and sustainable not for profit activities. Tina Eckert from Austria has established a social travel company called Karmalaya to promote global, sustainable and development projects with an idea of 'volunteerism'
